The barn is lifted off the foundation, just a few inches. The east wall is being removed.
The barn now appears to be floating in air. The entire foundation has been removed, and the barn is being supported only by the 'cribs'. Work now begins on the new concrete footings.
Work is well underway on the new foundation. As the foundation is built, the barn is raised again to make room for the next row of blocks.
This photo was taken early morning during harvest. The work on the foundation appears to be complete, but the barn is still up in the air. Two large steel support beams need to be installed before the barn is lowered.
The barn is now resting on its new foundation. Everybody involved with the project is sleeping better tonight.
A split-fieldstone rock face is being added to the block walls. This will give it the look similar to the original foundation.
The plastic work tent is removed from the east side of the foundation to reveal the finished stone work. Work now continues on the south and west side of the barn.
Early March 2008 the split-fieldstone foundation is completed. Work now moves inside installing the hay-loft floor.
Work on the barn is complete, at least for now. The doors and windows will be installed later this year. Right now we need to complete the landscaping and other cleanup. The wedding date is fast approaching.
Early July. The rock retaining walls for the old hay wagon ramps are back, and most of the other landscaping is complete. The wedding, which was June 28th, has come and gone. Woodchips were added to the east side of the barn for the wedding site.
